Proficat
Chain Alignment Tool - $87
There are gizmos, and then
there are convenient gizmos that really work. Everyboy knows that a misaligned
rear wheel effects handling and sprocket wear. Using the axle plates to
align the left and right side of the axle is next to impossible. Measuring
from the front of the swingarm to the axle is also hard to accomplish,
particularly on some Ducati models. In a pinch, I've been using a simple
straight edge to determine if the sprocket is aligned with the run of
the chain. That concept works fine except I don't always had a straight
edge handy, and taking one with me while touring is a pain. Along comes
the Proficat laser alignment tool. Simply place it flat against the rear
sprocket and tilt it to shine the laser along the run of the chain. The
light will shine as a dot to show whether the sprocket is perfectly aligned
with the chain. It's brilliant, simple to use and compact. Includes batteries
and a small carrying pouch. The entire thing fits in the palm of your
hand and is small enough to fit in a storage compartment under your seat.
NOTE: Not necessary for Ducati
models with single-sided swingarms.
.
Above,
note the light showing along the run of the chain. You can tilt the Proficat
to shine a light anywhere along the run of the chain all the way up to
the front sprocket.
