The Desmo
Times Vented Cam Belt Covers - $125
Q&A:
1. What
is the advantage of venting the cam belt covers?
Cam
belts have a tough life. One way to reduce stress on cam belts is to vent
the covers. This allows heat to escape the belt cover chamber.
2. What
is the condition of the cam belts covers?
The cam
belt covers are in very good condition, with no cracks.
3.
Will venting the belt covers cause corrosion of any parts in the belt
area, to include roller assemblies?
I've been running vented
belt covers for years on all my Ducatis without any rust issues. The vents
are on the facing of the covers, so water doesn't drip inside. Still,
if you ride often in a driving rain, I'd stick with a closed cover.
4.
Why should I pay to have my stock covers vented when I can purchase Carbon
Fiber covers for @ $200 or aluminum covers for @ $250.
First, the cost of CF or
Aluminum covers is almost twice the cost of my machined OEM covers. Second,
in my opinion, the vented covers look better than CF or Aluminum covers.
Third, neither CF or Aluminum covers vent like machined-out covers will.
Fourth, Carbon Fiber belt covers will fade from the effects of sun, water
and heat.
5.
You used to offer these covers for exchange. Why did you change your policy?
It was not economical to
do so. Over the years these covers have not sold well and I am discontinuing
having them milled out. No exceptions. I don't want your stock covers.
I repeat, I do not want your stock covers, nor will I have them milled
out. When the vented covers I have are sold out, they're gone forever.
