1. What
is the advantage of this conversion kit?
My conversion
kit replaces the YB16ALA2 maintenance battery with a AGM 12V12B-4 High-Performance/Quality
Westco battery (The stock battery size used in all post-2000 Ducatis -
replacing YT12B-BS or GT12B-4). Included with the battery is a battery
box insert and clamp to secure the battery. By switching to the newer
battery you will no longer have to worry about refilling the battery cells.
And, unlike the stock battery, the Westco battery won't explode or have
a cell go bad like the stock battery can.
2. Will
the kit fit all the bikes outlined above?
The kit
will fit all water cooled 4-valve Ducatis between 1989-2002, including
the 851, 888, 748, 916, ST2, and the ST4. It is designed to replace the
YB16ALA2 battery using the stock battery box mounted next to the belt
cover. A longer battery cable lead to the starter solenoid is needed on
the ST2/ST4 models.
3. Can I
purchase just the battery clamp and insert without the battery.
Sorry, it
is only being sold as a kit. I do sell the Westco battery separately.
4. Is the
Westco battery as powerful as the one it replaces?
The YB16ALA2
- 16 AMP/Hour and weighs 9 pounds
12V12B-4
- 10 AMP/Hour and weighs 9.5 pounds.
Cold Cranking Amperage is
comparable. The 12v12B-4 is used to turn over the latest 999R superbikes,
so it can handle just about anything.
Notice the weight. You don't
save any weight by switching to the 12V12B-4 battery, but you do save
yourself from having to deal with the shorted or dried out cells on the
YB16ALA2 Battery.
