DOT 5.1 Brake/Clutch Fluid - $9.95
Ducati
dry clutches are hell on brake fluid. I've been searching for years for
a brake fluid that held up to the constant heat cycles of Ducati clutches.
I found it in Motorex DOT 5.1 It has an extremely high boiling point of
509 degrees F. (265 degrees C) and is especially suited to race conditions,
and the high temps wrought by clutches and brakes. Standard DOT 4 brake
fluid dies above 440 degrees F. and DOT 3 gives up at 400 degrees F. This
stuff will stay clear longer, and is less susceptible to water absorption
like DOT3 and DOT 4. Fully compatible with Ducati DOT 3 and DOT 4 systems
(unlike DOT 5). 250ml can is enough for several bikes. I recommend you
do a full bleed to purge your old fluid. Perform the following steps.
1.
Use a vacuum bleeder to suck the old fluid out of your reservoir. Do NOT
squeeze the clutch or brake levers once you empty the reservoir.
2.
Wearing gloves (brake fluid is nasty stuff), clean out the reservoir lid
and gasket with a towel.
2.
Wearing gloves, use a towel to wipe out the inside of the reservoir.
3.
Fill the reservoir with Motorex 5.1 fluid. Use a vacuum or manual bleeder
and bleed the system at the bleeder banjo bolt at the brake calipers or
the clutch slave cylinder.
4.
Ensure the reservoir doesn't go empty as you're bleeding. Once the fluid
coming out matches the color of the new fluid, stop bleeding and ensure
the fluid in the reservoir is between the min and max lines.
5.
Dispose of old fluid at a recycling station.
