Owner Review:

The Terblanche-SS is completely different than the '91-'98 SS. While still marketed as a Sport-Touring bike, the seating position is far more extreme. This variant, like the rest of the 2003-2005 1000SS models, is prone to having bad valve guides. This creates poor running tendencies that are often mis-diagnosed as fuel-injection problems. The 1000SS is the best-performing 2-valve sportbike that Ducati has produced in terms of being race-ready. The egronomics are suited for the track rather than the street. Because of the low sales volume, there are few aftermarket parts available for the SS. With a proper F/I setup the bike runs flawlessly and power delivery is smooth. Like the rest of the DS1000 motors, this one runs much hotter than the previous carbureted or fuel-injected 900SS, making it less suited for summer riding.
